RENAISSANCE F.C : SOME LANGUAGES ARE UNIVERSAL

Update: Renaissance FC is now an independent project.

In summer Fences & Frontiers  launched a 5-a-side football team. This initially supported a group of 10 recently arrived asylum seekers aged 16-22.

Update: Renaissance FC is now an independent project.

This project was built of the premise that football is a ‘universal language’ - a language that can help transcend cultural, social and religious differences & challenge prejudices.

Through the project we aimed to improve both the physical & mental health of the young people we worked with, helping to combat social isolation, while simultaneously supporting their social integration.

Asylum seekers have minimal state support, cannot work and often lack adequate support networks. They are therefore reliant on projects such as this to access any recreational activities.
